A first session is all about meeting
and seeing how we get along and whether we feel we can work
together. Clients often find the first session daunting but it
will be my aim to make you feel comfortable and relaxed. If at
the end of this initial session you decide you would like to
come back, we will talk through and then sign a therapeutic
contract and agree a date for our next session.
Counselling may then be short-term or long-term. In some
instances a single session may be all that is needed to talk
through an issue that has brought you to counselling. If you
need more time then we will book a series of sessions, with an
agreement to regularly review how you are feeling and whether or
not counselling will continue or when an ending might be
appropriate.
During the first few sessions we will get to know each other and
look at what has brought you to counselling. Hopefully, a
relationship will start to build between us, which I believe is
key to the development of trust. As you start to feel secure and
able to trust me, you will find it easier to talk about and
explore the difficult and sometimes painful thoughts and
feelings you are experiencing.
